Tea, Tradition, and Tomorrow

Empire Teas marks 25 years of sharing the finest Ceylon tea with the world. Trusted in over 70 countries, the company celebrates its journey of passion, partnerships, and innovation — blending heritage with a bold vision for the future of tea.

There is something timeless about a cup of tea, the way it connects people, cultures, and moments. For Empire Teas, marking 25 years was not just about reflecting on the past, but also embracing the promise of the future.

“When we started, all we had was a dream and a deep love for tea,” recalls Lushantha de Silva, Founder & Managing Director. “Today, we’re honoured to be part of so many tea journeys worldwide. This is about relationships, not just brands.”

It is these relationships that have been the true measure of Empire’s success. Saadeldeen values the “consistent quality and flawless production systems” that have eliminated costly delays and allowed mutual growth. In the Netherlands, the Country Head looks forward “to the next 25 years of sustainable growth together.” And in Kenya, Thushara, Managing Director of Empire Kenya, speaks of a future rooted in “innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment,” building on the strong foundations already laid.

This year’s anniversary celebrations mirrored that very spirit, rich in heritage, grounded in gratitude, and full of forward-looking energy. What began 25 years ago with a small, passionate team and an unwavering belief in the purity of Ceylon tea has grown into a name trusted in more than 70 countries. The milestone was not merely a mark of time passed, but a tribute to the people both near and far, who made the journey possible.

Empire’s 25th anniversary celebrations began close to home, with heartfelt laughter & love alongside its dedicated staff. Soon after, Colombo welcomed distinguished guests from around the world, who toured the company’s head office, blending facilities, and tea estates, connecting with the people and passion behind every cup.

From exploring Galle Fort, lush tea gardens to experiencing Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture, the days were filled with shared moments and memories. The festivities culminated in a grand Gala Dinner, a night of laughter, reflection, and gratitude, honouring partnerships and friendships brewed to perfection over the years.

And as Empire looks toward the next quarter-century, one thing is certain. The values that shaped its first 25 years, trust, quality, and a shared love for tea, will continue to define every step ahead.
